DIY - 2005 Corolla Rear Brake Shoes Replacement

This DIY is for a 2005 Toyota Corolla Altis made for the USA - NOT JAPAN 

Make sure you check your vin if it starts with a J then it is a Japan Model If it starts with a T then it was made in Canada or US so brake shoes are different sizes in the rear .

Always good to do one side at a time just in case you forget how to put it back or take pictures as I did . But if you first remove the brake adjusting spring .

Then you can remove the lower spring and the side springs holding the shoes up . 

Then you have the inner top spring to remove then the emergency brake cable clip 

With your new brake shoes make sure you size them up and know which is the inside slot and the outside slots .

Using Anti Seize you will apply a little on the brake plate where the shoes will be rubbing - DO NOT USE GREASE - Of course check for leaks around the brake wheel cylinders and clean dust with brake cleaner wear a mask .

Put clip back on new brake shoe for the emergency brake cable then apply anti seize on brake adjuster to keep from freezing especially cars up north . 

Make sure you notice the slots on the brake adjuster 

Once you have your new shoes on then you can adjust the brakes 

Either from the rear or keep pulling the drum off till you feel a slight drag . If you do it from the rear make sure you put the rubber plug back . 

If you wish to bleed the brake system then you can if not then carry on

DIY - Repainting Stock OEM RIms using VHT Paint

This is on a Toyota Rav4 but this can be done to any vehicle . 

Issue was rims were fading so I just wanted something to make it look better - I used Rim VHT paint not just any other brand . ( Very High Temperature )

You can either wash the whole rim with Dawn soap and water , Then I used degreaser , Let is sit dry in the sun . 

I found a scotch brite pad just to scuff it a little , You can get more detailed with sand paper but these rims were faded not ruined completely . Then with alcohol for the final wipe of dust and grease .

You can use business cards to protect your tire from being hit with paint . As you can see in the photo how bad the rims were getting . 

I only did two coats because I needed the vehicle right away but if you want to add more or even clear coat that is fine . But for me this is perfect for what I'm looking for .

DIY - Front Coil Over GODSPEED Struts 2005 Toyota Corolla

This DIY is on a 2005 Toyota Corolla 

Always make sure that your part is correct and is functional . These are Godspeed full Coil over Mono Struts .

Make sure you center lock your steering wheel to prevent it from turning .

Remove the brake line bolt from the strut first 

Then you remove the sway bar link 

Then you can remove both lower strut bolts and let the strut hang from the top nuts 

Then you can remove the three nuts and before you remove the last one hold it with your hand so it doesn't drop 

Now make sure when you put the strut on that the adjustment on top that will help the camber is able to go to side to side as in the photo on top - Then you preload the spring after preloading then you can try to adjust the height before connecting the lower bolts 

With a jack you can push up your lower control arm to line up the holes - Make sure you have a camber bolt and replace the top strut bolt with the camber bolt 

Put the tire back on temporarily and lower the car to make sure your height is correct 

Then you can put the sway bar link and the brake hose back on the strut then head to your local Alignment Shop
