DIY - Front Strut Replacement 2000 Infiniti I30

This is a DIY on how to remove and replace front struts on a 2000 Infiniti I30

You can start by loosening the bottom bolts on the strut but do not remove the bolt - Then you can disconnect the ABS wire from the strut , Then you can remove the bolt that holds the ABS wire ,Then you can push off the clip that holds the brake line to the strut

Notice in this you will see a hook facing up - This is important that it goes back to its original spot when completed

Once you completed the bottom then you can remove the nuts that hold the strut mount to the vehicle

This is very important to remember to keep the word OUT towards the tires

Then by using the spring compressor then you can remove the center bolt that holds the strut plate to the strut

Remember to line up everything when putting back the strut mount cause this separates as the photo above

Once you put your spring on the new strut then you can reverse the process

DIY - Rear Strut Replacement 2000 Infiniti I30

This is a DIY on how to replace rear struts on a Infiniti I30 .

Remove the panel from the trunk behind the back seats you will see two clips - Once you remove the panel you will see the rear strut mount nuts through a brace - There is a slot on top where you can slide the ratchet extension through .

Then you remove the bottom bolt and the strut will slide out .

Then with your spring compressor , Compress your spring then you will see in the photo I have a special socket for the top of the strut so that you can unscrew the nut - If you don't have that socket then use a wrench or vise grip .

Once you remove the old spring to the new strut then you can reverse the procedure and out your rear strut back .

DIY - Toyota Camry Front Strut Replacement

This is a DIY on a 2000 Toyota Camry - Removing and Replacing Front Struts , Strut Mounts and Sway Bar Links .

If your gonna remove the struts you might as well replace the sway bar links and strut mounts at the same time .

Make sure you use the proper tools - for example use spring compressor to ensure no injury .

Make sure you use jack stands .

As you can see those are the original struts and strut mounts , The dot on the strut mounts indicates the way that the high point should be facing when replacing the old ones with the new ones .

Remove the brake line then there is a ABS wire that you carefully unclip from the strut , then from there you remove the sway bar link .

Then with a impact wrench you can loosen the bolts that hold the strut to the spindle . Do not remove the bolts out completely .

Remember if you do not have a dot to mark the area either scratch a mark or with some kind of paint pen put a mark there , so that if your using the old strut mounts you know how they should be facing when you install them or when you install the new ones you know where to mark those , This is very important because there on  angle and you can put them back wrong .

In this photo above I etched the bottom part of the base that is under the strut mount and you will be reusing that , they must both be facing the same way .

Then by using the spring compressor to remove the old spring , Compress the spring then remove the center bolt holding the strut then putting the old spring on the new strut still compressed then putting the bump stops and the dust cover back on before installing the top plate and strut mount , Again etching the strut plate and mount facing towards the same direction as the bottom bolts then you can tighten center nut then release the spring .

As you can notice the mount has a angle .

Then you can install the new strut the same way you removed the old ones . In many situations you do not need a alignment because you aren't removing the outer tie rod but it is best you do a alignment due to camber reasons or at least have it checked out .

DIY 91-94 Tercel Front/Rear Strut Spring Replacement

This DIY is for a front and rear spring replacement , But you can use this DIY to replace your struts as well .

First you remove the front brake line to the strut then you mark your strut bolts so when you put them back you can get as close as you can with the alignment .

Then you loosen up the bottom bolts on the struts then you go to the top of the strut and remove the three nuts . In this photo you will notice how the strut mount looks like a oval shape , When putting this back on it must me the same way .

Once you have the strut out then you use the spring compressor , Vise grip to hold the center strut from spinning as you remove the center nut on your strut .

Once you have the spring out then you do everything in reverse order making sure you put back the bump stop in the center of the strut .

Make sure you have the gap on the strut mount is towards the fire wall or else your strut will be out of alignment and possible do damage to your tires . Once you have the front struts on correctly then you tighten all your nuts and bolts .

Now for your rear struts you must remove the plastic cover then you will see two nuts .

Then you go to the bottom of the strut and remove the one bolt going through the center of the strut .Then using the spring compressor as was done on the front struts and do the same thing .

With the rear one it has a nipple to clamp on to or a tool that fits and holds the center rod on the strut . You can loosen it up while the strut is on the car or you can do this while the spring compressor is applied off the car .

Once you have replace the spring then you do the reverse and put your rear strut on .

There you have a basic DIY for replacing struts or springs .
